The aim of JAM is to provide highly needed mental health promoting activities that are not available at the traditional medical facilities such as psychiatric hospitals and mental clinics, nor are available at rehabilitation facilities such as community support centers.

One of the activities is managing the Information Center for the Emergency for Mental Illness which is assigned by the Metropolitan Government.

The second activity is managing the Tokyo Night Telephone Counseling Center which is also assigned by the Metropolitan Government.

The third activity is running the pilot study of the new type of the consulting system for the care managers of the senile and the disabled people. The system is named as Mental, Legal and Technological Consultation Center for the Care Managers for the Senile and the Disabled People, MELETEC. This pilot study is funded by the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare.

JAM annually has been holding symposiums of the latest important themes concerning the mental health services in Japan.

JAM has a basic data base of the mental health services which is available on the web-site. It is revised frequently and enables people to get the latest important documents and the updated data about the mental health in Japan.
